The Southern Gospel Bookshelf – Introduction

It is my pleasure to introduce to my readers a new category on my blog ~ The Southern Gospel Bookshelf!  If you love to read, and like myself have often wondered, “where are all the books about Southern Gospel Music?” – this new feature should be able to point you in the right direction.

The books that I have found related to Southern Gospel Music are listed below.  Some are biographies, compilations, and inspirational Christian living.  Though these are not all of the books that are probably out there, these are the ones that I have been able to track down.  As new books are published, and/or as I find more, this list will be updated to keep you informed to as many books as possible.  The list below is arranged in alphabetical order and many will have website addresses by the “place of purchase” where you can go to purchase the product.  Title’s with a “*” by them, denotes the books that will be reviewed in the time to come.

In the future, I will be posting reviews for some of these books on my blog.  With this,  you can get an overview of the featured book, learn a little about it, and see if it would be something you would be interested in reading.  Be watching for the very first book review to be posted in a couple of days, Songs In The Night by Lauren Talley.

About the Author

Lynn
Lynn's Chronicles is an online publication devoted to uplifting the name of Jesus Christ and supporting the industry of Southern Gospel Music! Back in 2005, I was introduced to SGM by my "adopted" grandparents, Ross and Lu, and absolutely fell in love with it! The following year, I attended 47 concerts and traveled as far as 12 hours to hear artists I enjoyed. Since then, my family and friends have encouraged me to share my experiences as I travel around to various venues, so in 2009 Lynn's Chronicles was created. As I have traveled, the Lord in his omniscience has allowed me to meet many of my readers! There's no greater blessing than to sit next to someone at a concert, then find out they are one of my readers - only our heavenly Father can orchestrate such divine appointments - and bless us as we come face to face and share our common bonds ... our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and our love for Southern Gospel Music! As you navigate through the site, it is my prayer that you will enjoy reading the concert, Cd and book reviews, as well as the many other pages we are adding in addition to our photos and videos. May you be encouraged and uplifted by the devotions that are posted and challenged in your personal walk by some of the audio files I have chosen to include within this site. Above all, may the name of our Savior be lifted up and glorified! Blessings, ~ Lynn

Another excellent book is What A Wonderful Time by Bob Terrell. This book chronicles the journey of The Inspirations Quartet, from their beginning up to the late 1990′s. I read the entire book in 1 day-it is fascinating!

    • Thanks for commenting and all the information about What A Wonderful Time! I heard the Inspirations had a book, I tried to find it at NQC last year, but I didn’t know the title! LOL! This is one that will definitely be on my list to track down! Thanks for sharing! :-)

Yeah, I don’t think the Inspirations sell it anymore. We brought our copy to a recent concert and had them sign it; Martin Cook was amazed to see we had a copy! You can get it on Amazon pretty cheap, though.

    • Thanks! That’s good to know! I’ll have to check Amazon and see if they have another one! I ordered my bio of the Cathedrals on Amazon too – I’m finding out more and more that there are books out there about SGM, they are just out of print, which makes me really grateful for sites like Amazon!
